Got this blue cedar a while back. It was tied to the stick behind it by some thick rubber bands.
As I took the bands off I discovered these nasty marks.
Do u think these might heal with time or is there anyway I can speedup healing ???

Also any idea why one side of the tree has nicer bark than the other , could it be that the side without bark wasn't facing sun ?

It's too early in the process of building this tree to worry about about the marks left by a rubber band. Bark is absorbent. It may be a chemical stain borne of absorption of solvents or plastisizers leached from the rubber band. By the time this tree becomes something showable, the stain will be diminished by oxidation. Exposing that side to the sun will help, too. There was no contact with the tree on the side with the bamboo stick which has a corresponding strip that was protected from the elements by the rubber band. The solvents probably interfered with the aging process of the bark, but the bamboo was already a dead surface.
