I will have a red Japanese maple, in Zone 6. They cannot take direct sun in summer days. I have nothing but a patio. What kind of material could I use to filter some of the light? Does screen like that on a screen door protect enough, or do the empty spaces allow to much sun in even with the sun moving? Some kind of plastic?

Thanks.

Get some sun cloth from Home Depot or Lowes. It doesn't have to be that thick... 40% or so is fine.

However... just going to say that there are red Japanese maples all over Charlotte in full sun.

Is there 60% empty space, or is there shade across the entire cloth?

Thanks.

Before putting cloth on, try to figue our what is happening. Might not be the sun. Might be overfertilizering, wind, lack of watering.
