Hi all, I'd like to post the development of one of my Hawthorns. The first pictures date back to approximately 2012;

The tree was taken from a hedge in an old garden centre. This was one of three, crataegus monogyna, actually the middle sized tree. The larger one and the smaller one perished.

I raised the soil level in an attempt to raise the level of the roots. This was to use the large "kicking out" root in a positive way. To remove it would result in a terrible looking reverse taper. However I thought, if I could raise the surface root level to just the right position it would look like a decent trunk flare.

That's a real powerful trunk. When the branch girth and apex catch up, it will be a great looking upright
