Helping my friend to thin his Mayhaw row.
One was naturally on a slant and will really a good one with a 2” trunk with decent taper.

Went to the Mayhaw grove today and chopped down 10 plus dug up 3 Mayhaws. Soon I will run out of pots and have to go get some more.

So I now have 10 single trees, one forest, and another mixed forest with Mayhaws. Perhaps 10 years from now I may be know for my Mayhaw? :)

In the next 3 months I may collect another 10 trees. Then I can experiment away.

Just collected 3 more while clearing out in between two big Mayhaws. I am practically giving them a collection stress test. Temperature index was 105 at collection time.

Here is a series of pictures showing how I do the root trimming at collection.
At the grove the trees were thrown in a tub of wayer to keep them wet.

Tree had two tiers of roots. Decided to prune off top roots.

Pruned crossing roots and cut them very short as well.

Dug up 3 more today. All around 3.5” at the base. One was dead at the top and barely some leaves near the base. It will have to be nursed back to health. Two others were healthy but growing so close together and other trees so had to be removed. Not sure what to do with those 2. They are only 2” apart and cross one another up top.

I am thinking about planting the two together as a twin clump. Their roots are linked already. What do you guys think?
