Here is another Bougie that just got repotted...
I started doing some serious work on this tree this
past month. I like to get the foundation of the main
branches set this time of year when they have dropped
most of their foliage and flowers.

This tree is going to start really taking shape over this
next year.

I just saw this...nice looking bougie. I'm curious...how does this species (this size) respond to that kind of carving? I hope you post some pics down the road... I have a small one with years to go...but they do quite well out here and I'd like to pick up a couple older ones. Thanks.

They take to it fine...
the problem is not the carving but the preservation of the
deadwood. Because it is a very soft wood it likes to rot
very easily. You need to apply wood preserver periodically.

I would avoid creating new deadwood if possible, but what
is already dead carve away...

I am in awe...though...I have years before mine takes on such girth for a trunk. I look at Bougies like yours...and think mine is a nice...twig. :p but yours is impressive. Thanks for sharing!
