Larger trees have you been there recent?Plenty of trees and great folks. I highly recommend Meehans
I read in another thread that @Owen Reich was there this season doing a workshop. Maybe he can chime in, seems he was there most recently.Larger trees
thanks sounds like i should just take the 7 hour trip and go lolI read in another thread that @Owen Reich was there this season doing a workshop. Maybe he can chime in, seems he was there most recently.
What is your definition of larger?
They sell bonsai to tons of nurseries up and down the east coast. I'm sure they still have plenty of stock; I don't think they'll run out.
When I was last there, they had field grown trees that were potted into 15 or 25 gallon pots; those are going to be "large" caliper trees.
I was there at the end of June and they have some more substantial raw material if that’s what you are looking for. I bought a Korean hornbeam with a soda can thick trunk and about 3ft tall for a project. They have a bunch of thick trunk cork bark elms, a bunch of bigger junipers, some tridents and etc.. may not hurt to call and see if they have certain stuff you’re looking for before driving that far...here are some photos from my visit.thanks sounds like i should just take the 7 hour trip and go lol
Very nice thank you. Looks like you have some nice material to be messing around with. Do you live in that area any other places you would recommend. TIAA few more photos. A massive trident that said $100 but the guy working wouldn’t sell me without the owners there... he thought it was misprinted... but I did grab the Korean hornbeam that looks like a bush and some San Jose junipers..
I do not. I drove about 3hrs to get there from SE PA. Only other place I know wouldn’t be close to you is Natures Way in Harrisburg, PA. Lots of good yamadori collected by Randy Knight.Very nice thank you. Looks like you have some nice material to be messing around with. Do you live in that area any other places you would recommend. TIA
I have tried to see if he was still around and which no knew or answered so I do not know if don still is aroundHave you tried Gregory Beach Bonsai in Dowagiac? @Don Blackmond is the owner and a member here. He hasn’t updated his site in a long time but used to have good trees that many members here have purchased.

You mean like in Japan where the nurseries specialize in species and stages. This allows the artist to select raw stock that is already built for Bonsai. What is the fun in that? You reached out privately, but I’ll fill you in on Meehan’s here for the benefit of all.
They have a ton of everything, and much of it is beginner to intermediate stock. The San Jose they have there are worth a 7 hour drive. If I didn’t want to focus on deciduous, I’d buy up most of them.
There are some larger trees they don’t bring to shows that are worth looking at, and every year they dig up a few species from the growing area.
Having worked with them for about 7 years now, I’d say they have the cleanest tropical stock you can get. This matters. They are also doing this full time, and don’t focus on finishing trees.
What if more of us in the industry specialized? Perhaps better bonsai shall be created?
I think the objective would be excellence over mediocrity. Not much fun in that. Completely un-American.You mean like in Japan where the nurseries specialize in species and stages. This allows the artist to select raw stock that is already built for Bonsai. What is the fun in that?
See how much they want for this one!
