You reached out privately, but I’ll fill you in on Meehan’s here for the benefit of all.

They have a ton of everything, and much of it is beginner to intermediate stock. The San Jose they have there are worth a 7 hour drive. If I didn’t want to focus on deciduous, I’d buy up most of them.

There are some larger trees they don’t bring to shows that are worth looking at, and every year they dig up a few species from the growing area.

Having worked with them for about 7 years now, I’d say they have the cleanest tropical stock you can get. This matters. They are also doing this full time, and don’t focus on finishing trees.

What if more of us in the industry specialized? Perhaps better bonsai shall be created?
Pretty fair assessment of what I've seen of them over the years. If you're after advanced stock, this probably isn't the place to look, although occasionally a gem pops up. Every general purpose, independent landscape nursery in the area resells their stock in their bonsai rack.

You mean like in Japan where the nurseries specialize in species and stages. This allows the artist to select raw stock that is already built for Bonsai. What is the fun in that?
Name any art form that has a shining example of something. Say Jaco Pastorious. He did one thing really really well. His work was specialized. If he played 5 instruments all the time, would his skills at bass be the same?

Wouldn’t it be cool if every time you wanted to own a Bonsai you didn’t have to go to a store and buy rough stock that would take a decade to fix?

They have been very responsive and helpful with my inquiries both by phone and email. I live 11 miles away and hope to visit their collection when the stay at home order has been lifted. I will try to take some photos and post when able.

Enjoy!
That’s a pretty part of the world you live in.
I lived in a little town outside of Boonsboro for a while.

Quick update on the korean Hornbeam i picked up last summer. Chopped in fall, then chopped the remaining late winter. Repotted this spring into a training pot, and starting to leaf out. i will continue to work on developing taper.

So I bought a Ficus (Meehans 3" nursery stock) from Wolf Trap while passing through Vienna and made my first attempt at potting and wiring. Hopefully it will survive.

Keep in mind I have no idea what I'm doing yet lol
