I got this melastome for free from a local nursery, and its leaves looked OK when i first got it a week or two ago. Now I've noticed these small bumps on only the tops of the leaves. It looks fungal, they don't scrape off easy and I looked at them with a jewelers lense but I still couldn't tell what it was. Theres not much info online about melastomes. Any idea? Sure look like eggs to me, but wrong location possibly not... 🧐 Butterfly eggs? Snail eggs? C9B078C1-6E87-4F5C-A466-9EF72100451D.jpeg

Too small for snail or slug eggs, I think - at least for the species in my area. Also, I've only seen these eggs laid as a clutch or small pile, not spread out as on your plant.

Some plants, especially tropical climbers and some orchids can secrete sugars if their foliar storage capacity is exceeded.
I'm not saying you should taste it.. But if it's sticky, water soluble and looks like sugar, it's probably sugar.
