I've never seen so much early growth on my trees. I've been repotting madly to keep up... Just some nice little bud shots for those of you still waiting to see some.
First is a hackberry, then a mediocre J. Maple, but I love those new leaves. Then a J. larch - love this brush stage!, and Korean Hornbeam... Already! Next thing you know, my birch will be unfurling.
Yikes!

I've been watching the mid west weather in disbelief. Here in my neck of the woods, The pacific NW, it's wet cold, blustery with snow or rain/pellets. My lone maple is swelling and the tiniest amount of green is showing on my hornbeam buds.
hard to believe the dramatic differences between our two homes.

And we are usually getting your weather this time of year. Instead we are getting record rains, and flooding. I fear for fruit tree production this year. My orchard is almost at bloom. My saucer magnoilas are also starting to bloom.
You should be milder by now shouldn't you?

The thermometer read 90 F in my backyard yesterday. Every tree is well on its way, everything has at least one set of leaves per shoot. Some have four or five.

The skeptic in me believes the weather isn't goign to hold and a hard freeze is coming at the end of the month, or in early April, or ---shudder---both. Early April is always a tricky time, doubly so this year since everything is well along.

And the forcast for next week for NEw England is summer at least 4 days of about 80, hope the freezes stay away, especially with the tree damage we had here last year.(October heavy snow broke most at least some damage, severe micro burst, and a tornado on the ground for 39 miles) Spring freezes can be a huge issue for the north east.

Normally we're pretty wet in spring but temps usually 10 degrees warmer, more 50's than 40's.

I too anticipate something cold and nasty end of the month of early april.

challenges, always challenges

I like it, but I don't trust it. I have a bad feeling about a nasty frost coming. Mine are all swinging into growth, but I have been keeping my eye on the weather forecast.

Yup... I agree with everyone above who mentioned a frost coming. This is all too good to be true. I've started repotting over a month early, but am expecting to have to do the old tree shuffle in and out of the garage in early april.

One of my big trees I took out of the ground today... I just left on the cart in anticipation of things to come :)

5 record highs in a row here. It is strange to see magnolias, forsythia, crabs, cherries, and dogwoods all bloom at the same time. Can't say I hate it...my electric bill for this Feb-March was less than half of Feb-March last year. Now I can go buy a new tree! lol
