Hello, here's my contest entry and first post! Just joined today.

Last fall a friend mailed me cones from various cork bark jbp. They sat in paper bags in a spare bedroom until January, when i started to collect the seeds. Was able to get a lot of seed, but most wasn't viable. 80% easily floated, but i planted all.

Planted in air pruning pots, with 2 parts akadama, 3 parts pumice. Sifted 1/8-1/4.

Soaked, and put in fridge in March for 30 days roughly. Then planted in my greenhouse in beginning of april i believe.

Started low dose fertilizer fairly early, moved up to peters 20/20/20 alternating with a fish kelp mix.

So far quite a bit of variety in growth.
Will keep updated.

I also have regular jbp seed started from FW Schumacher. Started it after the cork seed, june i think .

These are full sun from start. Wood box with wire mesh bottom. 3/8 pumice in bottom 1" , with a 50/50 turface/pumice blend. Mixed in akadama fines in the layer with seed. Put thin layer of sand on top also, as it dried too quick. Started fert early, same as others.

I'll save a few of the fastest growers from this bunch for contest also.

Solid growth from those seeds Mike, looks like you had a pretty good percentage of germination ... you’ve got a lot of little trees!
