I neglected to post this sooner. The Milwaukee Bonsai Society show and sale is at the Lynden Sculpture garden ending today at 4 pm. Get there if you have time this afternoon. Lynden Sculpture Garden or Park is north of Milwaukee, about a mile west of Highway 43 on the south side of Brown Deer Road. Admission and parking are FREE, very different than the steep parking fee charged by the Chicago Botanic Garden.

There are some very nicely done trees, in my opinion, the quality of these trees is as good as the quality of the Chicago Show, only there are fewer trees. There are only about 50 trees on display, about a third the size of the Chicago Show. The 30+ trees in the open category are quite good. And the 20 or so trees in the Novice category show good progress with young material.

So if you have time TODAY, it is the last day, and closes at 4 pm. Mark Fields was judge, there are a couple vendors selling bonsai & supplies, Ancient Arts (Ron Fortman) and Wisco Bonsai (Kevin Stoevoken).

Best in Show, White Bark Birch, Betula sp.

@sorce - if you leave your house right now, you could get there by 2 pm, and have time to meet the Milwaukee club. Come on up.
About 7 of the trees had been in the Midwest Bonsai Society Show, at Chicago Botanic Garden, so if the birch and the Ponderosa look familiar that is why.

One tree of note, by a less than 3 years in the hobby novice was a tanuki created with deadwood and Japanese White Pine rooted cuttings of 'Zuisho'. While pleasant at this point in time, I'm thinking down the road 20 years this has real potential to look fabulous. It is nicely executed.

Thuja, because of foliage habits, is usually not done as shohin or the next size up. I did not measure this nicely done, naturally dwarf, 50 year old collected Thuja, but it is definitely less than 14 inches tall, it probably is around 10 inches. It is quite nice for a small Thuja.
