Does anyone have a Mimosa pudica that they have made into a bonsai? My wife would like one plant in the house of this species and I am looking for information and ideas on if they can be made into a bonsai.
I read with interest your post about Mimosa pudica. We have a "tree", in this area, we call Mimosa that pretty much grows wild. They get quite tall/large with long, arching, and drooping limbs and mounds of pinkish/purplish "flowers." What are the characteristics of your Mimosa pudica? I'm wondering if they are the same or related?
I was able to find a web entry on the NC State University for what I'm talking about. It's scientific name is Albizia julibrissin so I guess they aren't the "same", but from looking at pictures, they look similar with mind being very large and considered invasive by some. But then again, I've known folks who cultivated them in their yard. We had them in our yard when I was a kid. Noah and I used to play under them.
I have one albisia or the new name I think is calliandra...with the same flowers...but the leaf is a bit different.
The one with the red flowers I brought from Japan.
Mine is a small one but have some in the ground fattening meanwhile while I am playing with this one. It makes nice bonsai
That looks great. Thanks for the photos. I will have to order up a couple and give them a shot. I know it will take a long time to get one to look like yours but I have time.
He he he! The last one is not mine...That was just to show you how they look as bonsai.
Only the first 3 pictures are mine.
I hope you know they re tropical trees.
