Shohin
Wanted to share some progress I've had with my Pyracantha. I don't have the true before pictures anymore but I originally bought it when I was a nursery specialist at Lowes. We had tons of these that sat all summer. I guess they weren't popular shrubs in my area, heh. When I got it it was probably 2 feet tall if not more and just a jagged upright tower of thorns.
The first picture was after I decided it could be a cool shohin. Not knowing any better I hacked it back. That was, I believe in 2019. Somehow, it survived without any real issues. I soon realized how absolutely horrible this idea was and decided to just go with a reset on the tree. Long story short I babied it and let it recover for a couple growing seasons. The last three pictures are from this spring, summer and fall respectively.
I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along and I love the colors it produces. The foliage, flowers and berries all really pop. I definitely have a lot of work to get the trunk thicker. It seems to have responded well with the pond basket and I really don't want to put it in the ground if I don't have to as one of my dogs tends to be prone to selective plant blindness, heh.
Anyway, I just wanted to share and if anyone has any advice or input I welcome any opportunity to learn. Thanks.
