Moss - Impermeable barrier

I like moss, but moss doesn't like my plants.
It creates an almost impenetrable water barrier (at least this kind of moss most common in Brazil), it's like a plastic carpet!
Of course it is impossible to take the moss off every time I have to water the plants.
What to do in this case? Forget about it?

If water can't get through it can't be good. Moss is great when you want to keep the soil from drying out too fast. Maybe you can try using small circles out it spaced apart to allow water to get in?
