I was just strolling through a similar patch of moss, and lichen. Gotta love it when the snow leaves!

Me and Tick boy jam like 2-3 square feet of moss in Solo cups....
On the regular!

This drainage grid has been an excellent place no matter where situated.
While a little dirty on top...it is turface filled here... Which transfers well to our soils.

Much moss grown in the woods has a very long nap when you go to collect it. Edges of the woods where it gets more sun...might be better. A tight moss is more fitting for bonsai. But give it a look...I have miles of wooded moss unusable though in my neck of the woods. But I live in Ohio...where I still find buckets of it around elsewhere. Be selective.

I found yesterday....

More of the Bluish green very shortest moss I ever see....growing directly on a rock....

Some with a bit more dirt underneath than the other....but all that short short...blue...always near or on a limestone, be it boulders....gravel...gravel dust...anything limestone...and the blue is beautiful....

Pics later.

I had to buy live moss on amazon,a mixture of cushion, feather, some other kind and sheet moss.It is ahredded up already and mixed. I’m gonna 50-50 it with some shredded orchid moss and use it as top dressing on my pots and start cultivating it and see how it turns out.
as long as it grows and looks green little bit i’ll be cool with it. I bought like 5 gallons of it so I’ll have masses of it.
The cushion moss looked low growing .
I definitely am going to need top dressing on my pots to keep the soil well .

That's the good blue
Vance calls it silver moss. I went out in the nursery at the show last year and collected some from their trees to put on the Dragon Mugo. It had a couple bare spots and I remembered seeing some over in the Japanese maple section.
Taking a putty knife and a big Ziploc and collecting a bunch this year.

Got my moss today....shredded it along with orchid spahgnum 50/50 in the leaf shredder!
Out of the seven flats, there is one flat of good low growing moss,so I kept it separate.I think it is cushion or rock cap maybe?
Hope it grows
