I have a friend that has a ~6yo JBP that he has grown from seed. He has kept it inside in a bonsai pot forever. He now has a house he could put it outside and I've convinced him it would be best.

I'm not sure if it would be better to move it now in our unusually warm and dry Seattle October, so that is can experience time winter dormancy. Or move it out in the spring?

Put it out now, if they can check to see if it needs water twice a day. It shouldn't need water that often, but it needs to be CHECKED often, until they are familiar with the natural watering pattern needed. Start first week in dappled shade or morning sun only. Then step into eventually full sun.

This is for zone 8b cli ate, assuming October and most of November are frost free. If a had freeze threatens before December, bring it into an unheated garage or car port. It needs 10 to 12 weeks to get ready for below 29 F cold by experiencing decreasing night time temperatures.
