I've don't recall bringing that up before but I'm sure it's possible others have brought it up. Vance and I have been on this board since it's creation and I don't recall him being the mugo expert early on. Something must have changed a couple of years ago it seems like...

At some point someone else should have been able to post something from experience about Mugo Pine but I seemed to be the only one. Do I consider myself an expert? No I just have grown more of them and talked about growing them more than anyone on this site or any other for that fact. I also truly love the tree and it's possibilities. Many of the things written about the Mugo Pine and taught about the Mugo Pine has come from the comments on this site, several others and a couple of on-line magazines. Bonsai4me reads like it was assembled from talks I have posts here and in other places.

As to you buddhamonk??? Did I pee in your punch, call your mom a prostitute or kill one of you parents in another life? I had thought we had some sort of decent relationship and I am not only curious but somewhat hurt at your attack on me.??? Does this have something to do with Will Heath? I have run into this in the past with individuals that seem to harbor ill-will toward me; it is often an adhoc attack because of my friend Will Heath.

I got this guy last summer from a bonsai nursery.I managed to keep it alive over the winter in my garage
and now the candles are starting to grow I haven"t done anything to it except keep it alive. I am new to this.
and have learned so much on here, and Iknow there is alot of info about mugos on here. just dont know where
to go from here, shoukld I let it grow? should I cut candles? ect. dont think it needs to be repotted yet
and if it did you would do it in the summer.I know that much lol!
Any advice would be a greatt help
ps.I know Vance is the expert on this topic and cant wait to respond LOL!

Steve: Sorry for the poopie to preclude this, but if my experience means anything you really don't need to do anything to this tree until July or late June in which case you remove all of the candles down to where they started this spring plus about 2 mms. of the new growth. Do nothing else until you can take a series of pictures with a bit better lighting from at least three additional points around the compass.

Why is Vance the mugo expert?
Easy to answer because in life you end up trusting the opinions of people. You make your own judgements based upon the knowledge and experience they display.

In my opinion, Vance has demonstrated the knowledge and ablity of an individual that gives me exactly what I am looking for when I need info and mugo pine. In fact, he is the main reason I, and probably many others on this forum, have decided to try this tree.

There are other individuals on this forum that I search when I need information on other trees. This is not to say Walter Pall and others are not experts but Vance is there for all of us.

The longer you search here you will develop your own list of "experts" . Hopefully, they will be able to address your questions like Vance has addressed mine.

I honestly don't see how I attacked you. I didn't discredit anything you've said through the years about mugo. I know that you're knowledgeable about that species and I know that you grow a lot of them. I was just wondering why others consider you the expert on mugo.

Last few threads of mugo are followed by comments such as "you want to talk to Vance about that tree" as if you're the only one that knows anything about those trees.

Now if you feel like a martyr because of your association with Will Heath so be it...I was questioning others' perception of you as "the expert on mugo", not what you actually bring to this board. I also know that you never claimed to be the expert.

I would raise the same questions is someone was thought to be the expert on juniper. For instance if I posted a RMJ and everyone says "oh you have to talk to Ryan Neil because he's the expert" then I would say that there are lots of other people that know about RMJ.

If you do not want an answer do not ask the question... If you do not like the answer change the channel. There are a LOT of dedicated experts here... Honest if you were to ask any question about fruiting or flowering trees I "WOULD NOT" bother to answer you because you are of the nature that just wants attention - not solid information. I have looked at many of your "insecure rants" and never have answered nor will. If you want to do it yourself, stop taking up time we can dedicate to people who are willing to listen in a professional mannerism.

Lots of internet heroes on this board nowadays! Impressive!

If you do not want "solid information" change the channel... In a gaming forum you would be a troll, asshat, and normally answered with a 4Q. This forum is not here with several thousand members for you - it is for Bonsai. Take it or leave it.

And you are certainly one of them, sir.

Actually it appears that I may be the internet villain. Glad to see that all the fan boys rallied to protect the honor of our local specialist/authority on mugos....

I'm not rallying to defend anyone. I don't know what he is or isn't an expert on. It is obvious to me, however, that you're here just to be a shit disturber.

Help, allow others to help, or leave. Why, despite being given ample evidence to support people's opinions, do you continue to ask the same question? They've told you why they consider him to be an expert. Why would you ask the same question multiple times? If you have an agenda, reveal it, if you have advice, give it, otherwise, get out of this person's thread.

Back to helping Steve. If you haven't already, check out the thread on here "A question for Vance Wood" has everything you need to know about growing mugos, just an absolute wealth of info for caring for the species.

. I'm just curious as to what makes Vance Wood "the expert" in mugo....

He has consistently provided solid advice and instruction to members of all skill levels on how to properly develop mugos for bonsai. I assume you are an active member of this forum, so do you disagree with that? Do you disagree with advice he gives? What makes you believe he does not deserve the "expert" status with mugos?

I suppose if you want to put an event element on it, is the fact that anytime anyone asks a question about the Mugo I am there willing to answer it and no one else seems to be coming forth with any information. After a while I am the one associated with the tree in peoples minds.

It occurs to me that Budda might be a bit jealous.

He states that he and Vance started on this board at the same time. Now Vance is considered by many here (and elsewhere) to be an expert on mugos while Budda doesnt have the same status in anything (except perhaps trolling at this point).

The difference is Vance has demonstrated his expertise in Mugos and I know from what Vance has posted and the results people get from following his advice that what he says works. Budda on the other hand, I have no idea that he even grows bonsai let alone what kind he may specialize in if any. Other than him saying he does bonsai, I dont recall him posting specific trees. I see from his post history he apparently did at some point.

This pretty much sums it up:
