This bougie has three trunks protruding up from it's hollowed out
base...

It reminded me of the The Stygian Witches, of Greek Mythology.
They are three old women, sisters that know almost everything but
the future. The Stygian witches are blind and see through a shared
mystical eye. Anyone remember them in the original Clash Of the Titans
film ???

Ok, so still not totally finished with this "springs work" yet on the tree,
will finish this weekend, but thought I would post some pics...

I just removed all the rotting wood from the center of the trunk, which
hollowed it out, did a first carve on the remainder deadwood, applied grey
washes to stain the wood to look old, applied wood hardner, and started
wiring it for the first time... Will finish this weekend, clean up everything,
moss the top of the soil and take some better pics, with a plain background.
:)

That is some absolutely stunning material, man. Congratulations. Those trunks are the bomb!:)

I've heard that bougie wood will rot like nothing else. Will you have to reapply the hardner on a regular basis?

Do you have any photos of this tree in bloom? Very cool.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
With Bougies, it is almost better to remove the deadwood and hollow it
out, which I did, the deadwood that was left is actually still functioning
to hold the tree up structurually, so it is and will remain for the most
part pretty strong.

The wood hardner does help, and does need to be applied every so often...
But with bougies, they wick up moisture through the soil even underneath
the hardner...

Sorry Judy, I don't...
I collected this tree 3 years ago, and other than downsizing
into a smaller pot, from it's collection pot, I haven't done
anything to it... so really didn't take any pics...

Often what I do in the spring, is I remove all, or most of the previous
years leaves as soon as all of this years new buds start opening...

It is, for the most part a defoliation, however, there is less stress to
the tree for the buds that are opening usually pop after and the next day
leaves are already forming. Also less risk of nothing returning, seeing
that there already was buds there.

Thought I would post some recent pics...
This has been a little sluggish filling in so far this year, but then again
so have all my bougies, including those in the ground. The caterpillars
have helped any... for they always seem to love these more than any
other plant it seems. Oh, well... rains have been really picking up the
last couple of weeks, and no matter how I water, nothing seems to make
them take off like rain water.

Gotta say that I think when I go to eventually display this tree
that I will display it naked with only the flowers... Like in the
very first pics of the first post... I really love the contrast of the
bright pretty new flowers against the old contorted bark...

Haven't seen to many Bougies displayed this way... but I am really
digging the idea... What do you think ???

The next time I go to repot it, I actually plan on tucking it back inside the hollowed
out trunk, and securing it with a nail. I can't unfortunately remove it because it is one
of the few, if not the only root that feeds the tall right trunk, but I can make it a lot less
noticeable... :)

I had a feeling it was integral...that sucks...but it might look good tucked into the hollow.....nice tree...
