Hi all! I got this juniper about 6 weeks ago and it managed to keep it healthy so I decided to take the shears to my first bonsai!

I’m a little unsure what to do about the flow in the back lower area, but I’m finished for now and will let it grow out a bit before making any changes.

Looks like whenever you touch a bonsai it turns to gold 😅 This is a really great start.

Looks good and healthy and has a lot of potential. I like the fact that you are taking your time with it. That is paramount. Keep it outside all of the time in as much sun as you can give it. Also, when you get a chance please put your location in your profile. It will make a huge difference in your responses, particularly if you have a problem develop.

Let’s see if I can turn this one into gold, too lol. Thanks all for the helpful words! Nice to hear I’m off to a good start. I grow cannabis commercially in Colorado so not unfamiliar with plant growth, but obviously a much longer end game with bonsai.

I picked this Brazilian rain tree up about 3 weeks ago and have good new growth on it too, but I’m thinking it needs to fill out more before I even think about pruning anything. I see a few branches that don’t quite flow, but am I correct that is a good idea to leave them on for trunk girth growth?
