Not sure where exactly It's going but something like an oak? Just got it and did a little pruning...Im a 2 month bonsai veteran lol haven't thought about much else since I caught the bonsai bug!

I love the naturalistic live oak look. I would start by thinking it a little and are what is underneath.

It's a bit reversed tapered, because there are 8 branches from 1 point, I don't know how to solve that, you will probably have to do a big cut / get a huge wound. Maybe broom styled tree's can have inversed taper.

Thanks guys! I see what you mean about the taper its frustrating because from either side it's amazing but that angle looks pretty bad. I should preface all my posts by saying I'm not at all looking for formal or super refined by all the rules...i just want my trees to be beautiful and look like some crazy tree you come upon in a forest and go what!? Cool!

Thanks for the tips! I haven't explored "damaging" a tree yet to make it look tortured but that look will def be a big part of my style once I learn how to do it safely. Im interested in finding trees that are already challenged looking but I know it's a part of the art form to replicate it. Just waiting till I know more and won't actually put the tree in any unnecessary jeopardy.
