My first Nana styling...

I bought this tree from Gary Ishi at Chikugo-En Nursery last spring. I repotted and did a light prune. The tree seemed very happy and healthy. Because of the warm weather here now, I decided to work on a couple trees. I liked the canopy, very cloud like, but very dense and I couldn't see much of this great trunk. I wanted to allow light in to the interior of the tree and lighten it up overall, so...I pruned off quite a bit...it was pretty aggressive, but I feel was the right move...for me
So I'm throwing it out to the proverbial "wolves" for some feedback. I have a couple more photos I will add later. Thanks.

Nice job on a nice tree, especially for your first time on this material. It's nice to see the trunk and all it's movement. Now give it a little break and then you should wire the secondary branching and be on your way to a fine tree.

Excellent! You've probably done enough for a while, but I'd hope you at least consider getting rid of that left-hand, lower branch (the one you went to so much trouble wrapping with raffia and wiring) -- but NOT NOW! Then, shorten that jin.

The branch looks too large to me.

I'm done for two years ( except removing wire ). That branch probably appears large because of the raffia and wire...and yes, it was a good bend. The trunk is 2" at the base above the root flare...I think, for now that branch works. I when I repot, in a couple years, I may change the angle and shorten the big jin.
