Out of the fire...

I was waiting all afternoon for the studio tech to unload the kiln. Yes, they were still warm when I picked them up — for real.

Sizes: green 8.5”. Brown temmoku 9”. Things shrink about 10% when fired to come 10E3630506-3E1F-442D-AB94-8A76DA4F6AC5.jpegBD8E4926-7B8C-4BBD-AB68-CC38E1D914F5.jpeg8E5EFC49-C5E4-4855-8A9D-7FADBDD9089E.jpegC743E412-090A-4840-9B0B-FD0067715E42.jpegF3B6D21C-5743-41E9-A246-3287E21D446E.jpegD9BD7754-8AD2-4E17-B25B-56F00D7D845D.jpeg

Great idea, the nails....certainly unique, which I love...
Is all your pot work freehand?
Yes, all are slab built.

I’ve been looking in to making a press mold for a general oval and rectangle. That’s the way most Japanese pots are made, that or cast. These are all slabs, which is the other traditional method. I don’t think that Japanese potters use the wheel as much as westerners do.

They look nice, I like the sharpness of the rectangle, maybe I’m wrong about the size but the drainage hole feels a little small. Especially if there is only one , I assume the smaller ones are ty down holes? Can function as some drainage hole too but small holes can get clogged up easily.

Yeah, drain holes are a little smaller than they should have been, but live and learn. I got a very small cookie cutter about the size of a quarter that I am using on my more recent pots.
