So, I finally got an air layer to take. Granted it was a privet so it probably could have done it on it's own, lol. So my plan is to protect it through winter and in the spring either put it in a grow box or into another pond basket as I know it won't take it long to fill that little pot it's in.The original privet it was taken from has done well in a basket. So I'm leaning towards that. The question is how to approach thickening it up? On the one hand, I air layered it because the top has the profile I liked and was filled in much more evenly. If I keep it pruned to shape it may take longer than I have left to live to thicken if ever at all. Should I just let it grow wild and unchecked for awhile or go with a selective leader approach?
