Here is a maple from Vallejo that originally came from Fuyo-en

That's the one i had in mind, but this (attached) is the only picture i had of it! It looks like it was under-displayed at the Trophy? 😕

I love this tree. It really caught my eye as a tree that respected traditional japanese maple design, but added its own twist, like most of your maples do! I would love to know what it looked like in the hands of fuyo-en. Was it already allowed to 'droop', or is this totally vallejo's doing? either way, brilliant!

I believe this happened naturally. My maple #5 is doing a bit of the same

That's good to know, thank you!!

Mario Komsta is actually the guy that designs and maintains the trees at the Alcobendas Museum with two other guys. He has an amazing eye for aesthetics not to mention an eye for design. Luis just comes by to admire his collection once in a while and pretty much allows Mario to do his thing. Mario told me that he tends to design his trees much in the same way the Japanese do while Luis' style is looser.

Raining today. Here are some snaps of my nursery! Recent addition of shade cloth structure over one portion. Emphasis on function rather than display as will be noted. Some grow out areas are separate from the pictures shown. My little nursery is located on 3.5 acres. The area enclosed by fence was the initial focus, prior to fencing the acreage sevearal years ago. The benches and grow beds are fitted with low pressure drip irrigation on a zone control system. Trees on the ground are hand watered, as well as the separate grow out areas beyond the fenced in area. How to keep busy in retirement.

Thanks, trying to work on the essentials with each species as they progress. No more seeds in the future! But a few cuttings possibly this fall. Built a little propogation structure to focus on some more difficult cuttings! Currently growing JBP, JRP, Trident, Assorted Japanese Maples, Chojubai, Tsukumo Cypress, Shimpaku. Then there are the collected tree's each year, Mt. Hemlock, Shore Pine, Alaskan Yellow Cedar. ( no collection this spring, waiting for back surgery)
Lots to keep me busy each day!

@MACH5 . I was wondering with your water features, do you use any type of filtration or water movement? Replenish often? I'm considering adding a few to my garden and was curious as to what was needed to sustain the water plants?
Thanks,

None at all. Waterlilies prefer stagnated water. But I do once in a while change out the water by about half. I do use a product made by API to manage algae blooms. Very easy on the upkeep and they add so much to the garden.

Can you make a specific post with pics of only your water features please? ...I need some inspiration :)

I've been wanting a few granite tsukubai/basins so bad (also some real granite lanterns... I only have cheap concrete ones). They are pricey though (and heavy/costly for shipping), so I gotta save.. hopefully in the future.

Latest news for me... I finally sold my old, archaic, pink-concrete (yuck!), exposed-aggregate stepping-stones! They were on CL for several months.

I have planned at least one moving feature (bamboo fountain) to add both movement and sound to the garden. I agree that water is a great addition to any garden.
I have used a rain chains and basins for many years and would like to incorporate additional water features.
Thanks for the response.

If you look at @MACH5 s pictures you will see 3 or 4 different water features. One has a bamboo water spout and the other are stationary basins with water lillies.
I'm sure given time (and a little praise as to his good taste) he might provide a couple detailed pictures!!!

Yeah..I've seen them before mixed in with his other posts/pictures. It'd be nice to consolidate them into 1 post for easier reference though (since this thread is 17 pages long) ;)

Gave this guy (Eugenia) a haircut today. (in its’ past life, it used to be a large ball, about 7’x7’ tall and wide).

I have 3 more Eugenias in the front yard. 2 are twins about 10-11’ tall right next to each other, I styled in a weird giant literati-ish style (since all the growth/branches T-off and split-up above 7’ and no branches below that, I think because it’s shaded by brick wall closeby)...

...and the other 1 is just a big 12’ upright with a single trunk, more boring... originally, one of those typical garden Eugenias with 3 rings/levels of foliage, but I pruned a lot of the inner crotch growths of the original 3 rings for separation into individual branches and pads.

Here are my front-yard Eugenia “Twins” that I mentioned earlier.

First 2 pics are far, from the street/sidewalk.

Pics 3 4 5 are about 10-15’ away.

Last pic is from the backyard, about 20-30’ away, poking above and behind the brickwall and guava tree (I also styled the guava tree... it too was just a huge shrub/ball before)

And here is the last Eugenia of mine, the upright one that I mentioned earlier.

It used to be one of those Eugenias that everybody has, with 3 “rings” or balls of foliage. I pruned the insides heavily to separate individual branches last year. Actually gave this one a quick haircut today as well. Also, as you can see, I am trying to grow more branches to fill in early spaces and to stray away from the generic “3 ring” look from brick-n-mortar garden center Eugenias.

Here are my 2 niwaki JBPs (they are my only mature/old JBPs... I have 4 more, but they are only small pencil-thick babies).

And here is a Star Lavendar ...it too was just a large hedge, a big 4’x4’ square. This is the best I could do. I know I know...it’s ugly, lol.

Styled it last year. Gave it a haircut a few weeks ago as it was getting very bushy again. Also growing 2 new branches on the left side.

Could you please start one separate thread for all of your individual plants?
This is the " My Garden, Show Yours", Not "My Plants, Show Yours"!
Thanks.
Sorry, please don't take offence. No malice intended.
