Hello Everyone,

I bought this Wisteria 3yrs ago and it took off from me....... to say the least. I do not like how it has gone everywhere, its ugly. I wouldn't mind taking it out and trying a Bonsai with it. I thought I would post some pics and get some feedback first.

Is this a good starter for Bonsai?
If not, what can I hack off without killing it?
If so, can I take all off of it except about a 1ft above the soil?

Any help is appreciated, I am not sure what to do with it....

Just, chop it down to 24" or so, dig it up, and throw it in a pot. I let mine twine (my preference) on itself.

If I wanted something like I have pictured, do I want to let it Twine on itself? I do not expect this anytime soon but this is what I would be shooting for.

And the time to Prune and remove would be during winter correct?

Easily done, though you might need a bit of wire. Vines are pliable for a couple of years, so if vines start twining, they can easily be unwrapped. Guying them is about all that needs be done to set them in position, but you can also wire them like a pine (slow thickening).

I started one this year but I have no real knowledge or experience to pass on.
I let it go all summer then chopped it back and tucked away for winter. Hope to play further next year. I have no expectation of flowers anytime soon.

I would dig it up early spring and see what happens. No loss right? That's how I learn.
