Would any consideration be given to picking upper sacrifice branch/apex developing visibly bigger trunk? Seems badly needed personally.

Yeah, that's a possibility for the future. I like the thin trunk it has, and with a severely tightened up canopy, I think it can look good as is. But a sacrifice branch running out of the top isn't a bad idea at all!

That’s up to the OP can still be done.
There may be a lower apex as well in the future.
