I got a bonsai for my b-day but i have no idea what kind=/ They got it at a bangkok market so the language difference made it impossible to ask. It looks to me like a dwarf jade. but i am not sure and i do not wont to over/under water it. So i came here.

Also there is moss growing on top of the soil. should i remove that?

Its hard to see in your pictures but the leaves look too thin to be any type of jade, the jade is a succulent, soft trunk and leaves. The leaves are thick and with leathery feel to them.

thank you for the reply. can you answer my question about the moss?

Leave the moss. It's a ficus. I don't know what type though. I'm not a ficus expert. Ill let you hear from someone else what type of ficus it is. If I guess it be golden gate.

i hope this helps

Hey i live in thailand so i would trust you. I looked it up and it does look like a dwarf orange jessamine thanks for that! as the cambodians would say thanks 2 sea containers full=)

are they an easy bonsai???

Actually, it's called ต้นมะสัง in Thai (Pronounced "ton ma sung"). It's not a ficus. The scientific name is Feroniella lucida. It's supposed to be called "wood apple" in English.

The picture has both the Thai common name and the scientific name on it. It even has the same wires you have.

I deleted that post because it turns out to be a different plant.. LOL

I don't know if they are easy to take care of. I imagine they are. They are supposed to be popular in South East Asian. You should Google "Feroniella lucida bonsai" and see what you can find.

thanks for the info about the wood apple tree. can you tell me anything about it? watering light that kind of stuff?

Google it. I already got you the name. That's more than half way there.. LOL

Hmm. I can not tell if it is a apple tree or a orange tree just got to wait until it has fruit

Aphid is right on target. Mr.Dr.Sir, never answered my question related to thorns, but I think I spotted one. It's definitely a feroniella lucida and not orange jasmine. While both have compound leaves, the orange jasmine's are pointy at the ends. I have a feroniella, so I'm familiar with it. I've only had it for a year. I'm afraid mine is dying though. I brought it indoors away from the cold, but I watered it too much.
