Such cool trees! Nice to see them waking up. Always a big party when spring arrives in the garden.

Is it my imagination, or is there a tanuki in there too? Is the wood really that durable that that works long-term?

Thanks.
No, I do r have any tanuki.!
The pomegranate ‘s deadwood is really hard to be decayed, at least in my area

What do you think of this phenomenon?
The young upright shoots have a lot of side branches

The young horizontal shoots don’t have side branches !

This fact supports my training technique.

Do you allow your pomegranates to flower/fruit? Mine is starting to flower for the first time and it's fine now since it's in the ground, but if it were in a pot I imagine it may weaken the tree too much.

Yes, I let them flower freely,! but not the fruit. I keep only one fruit for the small tree.

The “ Revered Teacher” had a lot of long shoots and flower buds as today.

Young shoot can easily be recognized by its pink color

It is time to prune her down to 1-2 leaves depending on the area. Some branches are not cut back because they are having flower buds

I prefer the flower buds coming out from the short branches

P/s: depending on the branching desires, I treat them differently.

Hello,

I did some cuttings from old big pomegranate last year. They grew branches during last year and they continue this year.

Now they are like in the pics below.. 2 are in the same pot.

I was planning to leave them like that for another year to make sure they grow enough roots as to be repotted and start the work. Any advise as for this season work...?
Thanks

Thanks for asking me.
Just give them a lot of fertilizer with high Nitrogen, sun light in this growing season. Let them grow happily. Then you can either transplant them in the end of this winter or pick and choose the necessary branches and wire in the mid winter.

Thank you for taking your time to answer me.
Just one question. You say I can either transplant at the end of winter or wire the chosen branches mid winter. Can not I do both things?
Thanks
