Yes. The flower buds will emerge at the tips of branches either the short or long ones. Of course we don’t want to see the flowers on the long branches, so I will prune the long branches. With the short branches, I will not prune them.

Curious to know how cold it gets there in the winter. I bring mine inside here in frosty IL.
The average temperature is about 45 F. With breeze, it could easily go down to 32 F !
I don’t bring any tree inside even though with tropical trees 😊

SoCal has some different weather areas. I am living in Inland Empire with desert type weather !

Beautiful trees and an inspirational thread.

I have a pom growing in my backyard that I'm planning to start some air-layers of in a few months. Been eagerly awaiting the right time and I was excited to stumble upon this thread. Do you have any experience starting poms by air-layering, or are all of your trees cuttings?

Again, beautiful trees and exciting to see someone geographically nearby having such success with pomegranates.

Thanks for your kind words.
I did quite a bit of air-layering on my yard fruit pomegranates. It is very easy to be succeeded. The best time to do that is in the end of spring .
Good luck to you.

I started working on pomegranates today. All of dead branchlets were removed and this year growing branches were pruned back to 1-2 nodes depending on their locations.

This one is a fruit type pomegranate with pink flower. It was a big branch cut from the landscape tree over 3 years ago. I carved the upper trunk 2 years ago.

With dead twigs gone and general pruning, they really tightened up and look clean!
