Hello everyone,
I have been silent here for a long time. I am now back for some of your precious suggestions, please.
I need to plan the next 2 years of the oak sapling I started in 2019 from a by-post nursery tree.
The progression is shown below.
I have been surprised by the growth of the trunk which gets thicker than my maples (but I was told oak is slow growing whilst field maples are fast).
The total height is not amazing, 70 cm. My aim is to have a future bonsai of around 50 cm. SO my question is, what to do next year (if it will survive)?
Repotting in a bigger pot or start with a hard-pruning of the trunk to reduce to about 30-40 cm and let it grow for 3-4 more years? Or both together?
Any suggestions? thanks
