So this is a tree that I've had now for about a year and a half. Bought it as a clearance tree at one of the big box stores. It was balled and burlap so I took it out of the pot, took off the burlap, and removed as much of the clay around the roots as I felt comfortable with. Then back in the same pot with a tree mix that was heavy on the bark for good drainage. I probably removed 50% of the foliage on the initial pruning, and then wired all the branches down. It grew quite a bit and I had to remove the wire because it was starting to cut in but the branches all held pretty good. I've been pinching new elongating shoots to work the profile down a bit and trying to open it up a little without taking off something I might regret later. At 3ft tall it's my tallest but I like it. Trying to find something to plant it into is going to be the first thing I need to do so that I can transplant next spring. Sorry about the crappy background in the pictures, that pot weighs a lot and I didn't want to move it. Ha.
