Frost do not affect Japanese quince but a severe freeze can.

I am 45 minutes or so away in light traffic. I don't expect mine to flower until at least April. They seem to bud early enough but they don't "show" until later in the Spring here.

I was concerned, because the same Quince bloomed in mid march last year!

Depends on when you brought it home and where it was grown. In the first season I find Southern grown plants normally bloom early or sometimes are already done when I get them in the Spring. The one I have now was bloomed out and done in early March very shortly after purchase. This year it is acting more normal for this climate and I expect a bit later for blooms as do the Quince at the farm in the ground.
