I bought this little one 2 years ago at a large tree nursery who has tons of maple garden trees and some bonsai's too.
It came in a small round terracotta pot and I left it in there not knowing what to do with it.
But then I read some of the threads here about Ebihara methode and was intriged, so I want to try that with this maple and see what it will do the next coming years.
Unfortunately I did not take a before picture with the terracotta pot.

Good work.

Note that an important part of the method is to spead the roots away from the trunk in their own space and fixing them in place. That aids in the development of a spreading rootbase.

I did put some nails in the board to fix some of the radial roots, but they still are rather flimsy, so I'll have to see next year if they grew to something more substantial to fix in place with nails...

Pretty impressive flare to work with straight “out of the box”! I’d put a couple of steadying wires from one point on the branches down to eyelets screwed into the box lip myself though? (Using a bit of rubber to protect the bark)

The tree is screwed centrally to the board, which itself is fixed with wire.
The box is inside my cold greenhouse out of the wind, and I do not move it around, so I guess it is safe for now.
If I move it outside in a couple of weeks, I probably fix it like you suggest, good idea, tx !

Ah I missed the bit about the screw from underneath - that’s what I do with mine as well although it feels kind of harsh!
