Hi all.
Got an unasked for mail today, from Thailand. No sender identified.
Envelope says "seeds".
I opened it, three identical little plastic bags with identical seeds. Label says "Made in China".
Is it a joke, a gift, Antrax?
I don't know.
I don't know also which seeds are those.
@Anthony is it from you?
@leatherback is it from you?
Can anyone identify these seeds before I use them as tea? Or smoke them?

Cadillactaste: said:
You sure a family member didn't send them your way?

Pretty sure!
No family or friends in or around Thailand.
The closest one is in Fiji.
But...
I have some Japanese friends who travel frequently to Bangkok, could be.

Well, it would be one who surely has your address. One would not need to live there...to buy something from there and send it though. EBay purchase even can be made like that I would imagine.

Looks to me like some kind of maple.

Agreed. They look rather like the little JM seeds I've gotten through mail order before.
I vote put 'em in cold stratification and see what pops up in the spring.

Exactly what I am going to do!
I hope it is really JM, I'll let you know by the end of September!

I am so sorry. No I did not send you those maple seeds :(.

Could indeed be japanese maple. But also trident. Or Korean.

This is my number 1 issue with asian ebay sellers; they don't label the seeds.
I get 3-4 packs per season like this, not knowing what they could be. I tend to order from multiple sellers at different times but shipping delays make sure it's always a surprise.
Good luck with these maples!

And they have a bad tendency to swap out seeds, too. These two facts are not unrelated.
I really wonder how much money they save by such sloppy business practices.

I think it's not even swapping out, but them just not knowing what they're selling and what they've bought.
The asian seed market is one big illegal marketplace of stolen genetics, copied patents, and other not-so acceptable behavior.
Every seed company that I have ever spoken about it, from worldwide players to local seedsavers; all have seen their genetics appear somewhere in china.
On the other side, we make good use of that as well. We get cheap seeds and fun surprises! I know one micro-vegetable company that is built on that principle: buy cheap asian seeds, sow them, sell for profit 14 days later. And yes, they too have had batches of lemon basil turning out to be chives.

Mystery solved!

In February I ordered some itens on E-Bay, including some JM seeds. The vendor was supposedly from the UK, but the goods were going to be shipped from HongKong.
After so many months, I had forgotten all about them, and was surprised getting this mail from Thailand; they are indeed Maple seeds.
@Adair M, unfortunately not the blue cultivar! :)

Wow. That's... that's actually impressively bad. Did the vendor already refund you?
