Thank you so much!Willow leaf ficus
Anytime!Thank you so much!
Yes, you are correct. It is dropping leaves because of it now, big time. Someone gave it to me, so the blind leading the blind here. Any advice on bringing it back to its full vitality? Other than letting it dry out a bit.Anytime!
That soil looks really wet, be careful not to overwater this tree. Otherwise willow leaf ficus are fairly bulletproof, grow from cuttings easily, etc.
Thanks a bunch! I'll add location to profile. In live in Houston, TX so definitely not a cold winter location. How to care for ficus will depend where you are. You can add a location to your profile so others can give better advice for your area.
Willow leaf are quite cold sensitive so if you live in a cool winter location it will need to live inside or in heated glasshouse over winter.
Water only when the soil gets almost dry (check below the surface before deciding to water) Ficus are relatively tolerant of dry roots so better to err on the dry side than too wet.
Plenty of light.
Feed regularly and trim any shoots that grow long.
Hi kelli, if you plan on doing bonsai more, may I suggest joining the Houston Bonsai Society? Alternatively, you can visit some of the more reputable local nurseries. Here in Houston I am keeping my tropicals/ficus in a greenhouse over the winter so they can get plenty of sun and survive the colder nights. Some others here are keeping their tropicals outside but just bringing inside or putting in a shed/garage overnight when temperatures drop to the <40-45F range.
Feel free to PM me if you would like any more information on the about Houston resources.
