This scrub bush grows all along the road sides and fallow land here in NC. I can’t figure out what it is. Anyone have any clue? It forms thickets and gets fairly big.

I have 0 experience with this species. But, I took your picture and ran it through an ID app and it came up with “Groundseltree” Baccharis Halimifolia. I’m also 76% positive it’s illegal to say “Groundseltree” without a German accent. Lol

Thank you! They are also called sea myrtle and Salt bush. I have been wondering what it is for the longest time. There is a fairly big one right next to my house and it’s got pretty cool branches. Now that I know what it is I may have to see if it takes to air layering. I also found this https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/sea-myrtle-groundsel-yamadori.37459/
Yes very German sounding 😂

I'm growing this for the native tree contest and it does look like mine (bark, leaves). Seems promising so far, I'll update my contest thread when mine wake up and I do the pruning.
