The daiza is not included. I find this rather peculiar since I have no idea what the daiza would fit otherwise.

It is a wonderful thin daiza, but it has losses on the ends, and I do not see anyone in the US or in Japan displaying stones on broken daiza, plus the type of wood is unknown, so the daiza is not for sale. The listing clearly states the daiza is not included. Initially, I didn’t even realize there was a daiza for the stone since it was in a mixed lot. This Chrysanthemum stone all by itself, is rare and wonderful enough, that it would be the pleasure of the new owner to have a new daiza made for it, thereby creating their own Suiseki, with their own artistic vision.

There are several well regarded Daiza makers that can be found on the internet that can make a beautiful daiza in whatever color or style completes the new owner’s vision for the stone. ( Custom daiza are not very expensive considering the work involved). Enthusiasts order, or make, daiza all of the time for stones they find, to form and complete the suiseki artwork.

Hello Djtommy,

Since you are willing to get involved with a transaction for the "red one and cheaper" from yahoo seller ‘toratoratora333jp’
perhaps you could ask them some questions I have based on seeing some of their other products for sale such as reproduction swords?

1) Is the 'stone' looking part of the item offered by 'toratoratora333jp' made from resin, polymer, clay, or cultured ’stone’?
2) If I pressed a red hot needle into the 'stone' will it start smoking?
3) If I baked it in an oven at 500 degrees Fahrenheit will it start smoking?
3) Why don’t they sell on eBay, which offers total buyer protection, especially against fake, or reproduction items,
when so many Japanese dealers are actively selling on eBay ?
4) Under the very brief description of the ’stone’, in the translation, the word “new” appears twice,
what aspect of the 'toratoratora333jp' ‘stone’ is new?

I understand if you do not have the time to communicate these questions to 'toratoratora333jp'

hi wabi sabi, my remark was more of a joke but i get what you are saying, honestly i dont have knowledge about stones, the one from yahoo side just caught my eye few days ago and now i saw your thread.
I have asked the seller about the origin of this stone, so not same question as you said but well... lets see.
as for the "new" in his remarks, its more about that its not new product and so you can not expect its as new.. looks more like a standard expression for selling old things.

your stone looks really good by the way, no disrespect was ment.

Hello Djtommy, no problem! I guess there is no point in turning this discussion into a promotion for the "tortoratora' item, regardless of what they may say. I think a quick review of their other products offered will speak for itself.

As far as the authentic Neo Valley Chyrsanthemum stone that I have listed on eBay is concerned, I have done my homework on it, and also reached out for informed opinions from the Suiseki community.

Here is a link to post from a very well informed enthusiast, on a major Suiseki forum, that agrees with my conclusion that my stone, shown above, is a Neo Valley Chrysanthemum stone.

So are all of the color and markings on the stone natural, or are the "flowers" created somehow, such as in firing??

Real chrysanthemum stones are rocks that have inclusions made of crystals that have a natural "starburst" shape. The inclusions can be anything from calcite to dolomite

There are fake ones out there too, especially from China.

The original post for my authentic Neo Valley Chrysanthemum Stone is for a genuine rock or stone, probably 300 million years old.

The link to my eBay listing with a full description and many more photos is here:

Japanese Neo Valley Chrysanthemum Stone Suiseki with multiple colors in the matrix, like the one I am offering, are very rare and prized.

There are also black colored with white flowers "Chrysanthemum Stones" that can be authentic and prized as well.

(Unfortunately, there are black rocks that where painted to create "white flowers" resembling chrysanthemum that are coming out of China for cheap prices as mentioned above, so consider the source, price, and all other factors)

I usually deal with rare books, manuscripts, and visual material like old photographs, and some antiques.

I happened across this Neo Valley Chrysanthemum Suiseki at an estate sale, researched the topic, took it to a lapidary for an opinion, and posted it on a Suiseki forum
to get some more informed opinions on its origin, like this one:

The post by rockm also contains some very helpful links on the subject.

Thanks
