Hey guys,

Here is a Boulevard cypress I bought today. First pic is as purchased, second pic after initial styling, third pic a close up of the apex . At some point in the future, I'll carve the stump, cut back the branches more, and wire it. The bottom left branch (not seen well in the photo) may end up just being a sacrifice to thicken up the trunk a little. When I repot it, it will be angled slightly to the left. I'm still pretty new at this, so please offer suggestions. Thanks.

These are very slow growers when it comes to thickening. I had one in the ground for 5 years that didn't thicken much, except at the base.

These also don't bud back on old wood, so make sure that you keep branches with foliage close to the trunk, and don't let foliage get shaded out or you will lose the foliage.

Not the easiest species to work with, but the blue soft puffs of foliage against the chocolate brown bark makes it an interesting subject.
