New Growth on Japanese Maples

We all love to see new growth, especially after winter. We can't help ourselves, it is on a visceral level. Its in our genes. Of all of the new growth nothing excites me like the Japanese maples, particularly when there is no hard freeze in sight. About a third of mine are awake now and many more just starting.

I have been growing and collecting maple a long time. Seldom do I lose one but a hard freeze can cost a years growth. I hope yours fare well.

Nice collection. I guess you never have to worry about a hard frost. We can have one as late as May 15, but May 1 is more the usual.

A. p. 'Trompenburg' maybe, but many varieties look similar at this stage.
