We all love to see new growth, especially after winter. We can't help ourselves, it is on a visceral level. Its in our genes. Of all of the new growth nothing excites me like the Japanese maples, particularly when there is no hard freeze in sight. About a third of mine are awake now and many more just starting.

Looking good. Mine are all in similar state. 22F expected next week and snow. Not sure how I feel about that!

I have been growing and collecting maple a long time. Seldom do I lose one but a hard freeze can cost a years growth. I hope yours fare well.

A crappy photo of a beautiful 'Koto-no-Ito' (the trunk behind is a Zelkova - not a bonsai, the source of hundreds of seedlings) :

'Sango Kaku' :

'Deshojo', and in the background seedlings from A. shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon':

Love thy neighbour: stay at home, talk to your loved ones on the phone or via Skype, keep the virus (and the cretins) away.
