Went to the nursery today looking for a long term mop mugo project , got that at one quarter marked and then wandered over to the “pre bonsai “ area . I shudder at the designation at this point but after browsing the typical half dead indoor nana and a few Barbados cherry / ficus stuff I came Across this little thyme leafed C. Microphyllus growing basically vertical compared to the his brothers and sisters displaying the prostate tendencies I expected that and the trunk seemed to have a little girth figured I’d throw the mugo in a colander in the middle of August and let it grow and probably keep this guy in this clean it up in the spring when I repot it and see what there is to work with in a few years , any cotoneaster inside tips would be cool ! For you guys who dig em

That cotoneaster looks very nice. They can take plenty of sun. Mine gets full sun all day long at 95+ degrees, and it loves it.

Thanks for the kind words ! You working with a microphyllus too ? Right now they are living in front of a western facing window in mid Colorado five or six feet off the sliding glass door see how it likes it

While your cotoneaster might be able to live inside by the window for a while, it will definitely be happier, be healthier, and grow more quickly outside. So if at all possible, put it outside where it can get plenty of direct sun. You’ll be glad you did.

My only concern is overwintering it here in Colorado and the direct exposure to the sun around 3-7pm here is brutal a few feet from the glass sliding door, I’m wondering how wel the small cotoneaster would take to that relentless western exposure a mile up ? Thoughts ?
