Thanks! Already put cut paste and aluminum foil over the chop.Ginkgo are pretty hesitant to heal over. I'd probably seal that cut, and I might consider the cut paste used to create faster healing. Off the top of my head I don't remember what it is, but Jonas @ bonsaitonight sells it. I have a ginkgo and one of its trunks has died so I'm going to have to deal with it. I don't have the experience yet, but now you've got a window into how I'm thinking about handling it.
Also, it does no good to say it now, but I would've waited 'til spring so it wouldn't have to wait so long before it begins to heal, however much of that its willing to do.
