Saw bonsai exhibit a year ago at Chicago Botanic Gardens & decided I'd like to give it a go. Bought a Jap cedar from Lowes & got to trimming & wiring. Then dug up a couple 1-2' red cedars/junipers locally & potted them, as well as a couple tiny ones growing in my lawn. More pruning & wiring. Then bought a very small Hinoki cypress from garden shop.
Managed to keep all alive thru winter in the garage. All are outside again now. It's a sickness really. This spring I've bought dawn redwood & Jap maple seedlings; and have just ordered seedlings of black pine, Montezuma cypress, canyon live oak & western red cedar. After stuff leafs out, I will try air layering for first time with twisted hazelnut, dwarf hackberry & Siberian elm. Can't get enough
I live in central Missouri, by the way.
