Hello , New to the forum.. kinda new to bonsai .. kinda not .. for sure inexperienced
anyway I was just gifted a japanese maple probably about a year old maybe more from my sister as a replacement for one i was attempting bonsai years ago that my now EX Girlfriends dog ate (ill post pictures once i figure that out )
anyway this thing didnt even come in pot , just rolled up in paper towel .. ive since potted the tree after running to the store to grab soils etc i grabbed what was recommended from another site ( mixture of organic potting soil, akadama, pumice ) and the tree has perked up just fine and is looking good now for the last week .. I need to know what to do now .. do I leave the tree to grow and establish its self for the summer and wait till next year to start trimming it ??? It has a really tall growth from where its been chopped prior and i feel it needs to be cut again as soon as possible .. but maybe not ? any help is greatly appreciated as i was totally throw into this without preparation
