We visited a local nursery today & came away with three plants. The first was a lantana with a nice lower trunk IMO. The second was a blue hibiscus. Last was a dwarf crape myrtle.
All I did today is cut down the pot, expose the root flare & do some light trimming. Looks like our first 100 degree days are coming this weekend so I didn’t want to do any root trimming.

I have a Lantana coming sometime next week, I had actually never heard of them being used as bonsai. Here the plants are sold as annual flowers. I imagine in your climate, they will be able to stay outside all year.

The lantanas in the ground do need some trimming to remove frost damage but then come back ok.

Normally the only trees that need to come in are desert rose & pumeria.
