Chunky sumo oak is going to be repotted this year, here are my choices.
Im leaning towards the first picture.
And yes, I want it in a pot and not in the ground.03697621-C98B-476E-A289-AC07B5D0C812.jpeg

I prefer the third personally if only because the pattern of the blue glaze leads my eyes to take more note of the texture of the bark.

If you don’t use that second pot, the rugged one shown in the attached, I’d like to talk to you about it and my oak that’s similar to yours.

I am a fan of #2 for your oak, it has a feel of the tree in its build, but still graceful in its walls.

it’s a very nice pot. I like the rough texture I think it compliments the rough bark well. Plus I love the black makes the grey pop even more. 4AAED4CA-FC2A-4FD1-97E3-1194F627D34F.jpeg

This my third year with it. I pinched last year and defoliated once. Not too sure I saw a reduction in leaf size yet.
Honestly this tree should probably be grown as a much bigger bonsai. But oh well, I like it. Got it for $5 from an old nursery.

I need to learn more about defoliating an oak. Time for some research……
