I don't like Procumbens, yet I purchased another one. I picked this one up because I really like the larger of the two trunks. I don't know if you can make sense out of what's going on from the pictures. It's pretty crazy in person. I've just started thinning it out and don't want to get too chop happy before i settle on a front and a general design. There are branches off to either side that have a lot of character. So if i wasn't going to utilize them in the final design it would be worthwhile to layer them off. I'd like to hear what you think.

I wouldn't do any cutting yet. That looks way too promising to start chopping back stuff. Keep all the stubs and broken bits. leave all the deadwood and work around them for now.

More pictures of the whole thing would be nice to see. A drawing of the trunk line best you can draw it would also be nice.

here's a couple more shots. it's extremely difficult to photograph.

I'll try to sketch it out tomorrow and get some more pics.

When you get a chance I would really like to see the whole canopy. Maybe with a two liter bottle of soda or a bucket for scale. That new pic of under the canopy is magnificent.

Lot of people feel negative about procumbens but I love um.:D

looks like very nice material to work with. layering is easy enough if its not useful dead or alive to the design.:)

Nice piece. Very nice tree in there. Many hours of contemplation to find it, but it will be worth the effort.

I wouldn't drastic cut a thing with risk of turning into another mass produced "S" shape design. Now it has character of its own and it looks like a tree! ha ha

Looks like two seperate roots systems two. Might want to seperate before hacking away so as to know what will go where.

They were probably two trees at one time, the trunk looks pretty fused now.

It would make things a lot easier if you could separate them.

I forgot to mention the back budding on this is incredible. None of my other older junipers have pushed buds on wood that looks that old.

Cut them back hard enough and even the branches removed will sprout buds:D

I wouldn't separate it. You could make a unique twin trunk tree, or two not-as-unique single trunk trees.

Well, I took the tree to the Kathy Shaner workshop at the Atlanta Bonsai Society annual show. It was an absolute blast. Kathy was incredible and seemed to like my tree. These workshops are definitely the way to go.

I also thought the Bonsai displays for the club show were a huge improvement from last year.

Here are a few photos of the tree now.

Looks good, I am glad you kept the other trunk(s). Do you have a pot in mind for next year ?
