Happy American Independence Day to all the Liberty lovers out here!

I got this Privet from a local garden center, some hedge material....
I chopped it back to stumps about 2 months ago.
Bounced back with a vengeance!
There is a spot where an old trunk died and is rotting, I think this tree will be hollow one day.
Its got good basal flare, millions of fine roots all over the nebari making it hard to see....but I'll bare-root it in springtime '20 and have a gander.

I was tempted to wire, but for some reason I want to try all clip and grow on this one.

nice project. i think you could let the shoots extend a little longer, as you already have the old stubs to build taper from,

this is a privet progression by a bloke from the UK, Chris guise
over 4 years with mainly clip n grow, defoliation to improve and maintain the structure

Damn Bobby! That's a nice one to see!
Thank you!
I will take your advice.
I think this will be all for it this year.

I will begin to allow lignification to take place then cut back next year.....and I'll have to get the Dremel out for those stumps.

The tree will need to run for a bit after its initial repotting next year, as well.
Thanks again!

I can't see those images :( I think I found the thread on WeeTrees, but I can't see it there without an account and registering is disabled. I emailed the admin, we'll see.

How's it looking @just.wing.it ? I'm trying to decide on a plan for this; probably won't do anything until next year, as the hedge trimming man got to it first.

It's starting to bud out after collecting at a non ideal time (a couple weeks ago).

I am sure you know but..
Cut shorter at some point.
Not now. It needs to recover first. But after that.

Cut shorter

Yep, thanks. I didn't do this chop, the neighbor had the hedge trimming people go hard this year.

The only thing I might do is put some wedges in there to spread a couple of the trunks more while I have the leverage.

Its doing well.
I did let it run free this year until about a week ago.
I think it may need a few years in a larger box to get more girth......but either way, its going well.

Nice; I'll be watching this progress!

I'll probably start a thread for mine in the spring.

if you were in my area you could definitely prune again. my privets don't stop growing till practically December. I've pruned at the end of August and had shoots with 9 sets of leaf pairs by dormancy.
