So here's a couple of new Firethorns. They are Pyracantha koidzumii 'Santa Cruz' or Formosa firethorn. It is a mounding variety and more cold tolerant than other varieties. Auburn says it has biggest and best red berries of any Pyracantha spp. I will likely put them both on the .99 auction unless somebody messages me before I post them. I will likely wait for a week on the first one and so the leaves that are popping can be seen better.

Here is number 1 It was cut back pretty hard but still has several options and it's budding out in several places already. It is about 6" tall with a 1.5 trunk that tapers to .75

Here is #2 It's a little bigger at 2" trunk and right now about 9-10" tall.

Where you have the caliper is not "the trunk" those are roots that should be buried. That is not "flare" that would be exposed. That is just nasty roots that are supposed to be in the soil and not seen...."ever"!

Your "trunk" is the part that is about 3/4 inch......period. The trunk is the part that starts where the roots end, where the smooth part of the trunk starts well above the roots.

Update on the first one (the second sold a few weeks ago) because it's up on the .99 auction here: https://www.facebook.com//groups/99cent/permalink/928067860704462/

It seems to be growing VERY strong. Because 'Stone Cold' Smoke said so, I removed a bunch of the "ugly" surface roots. LOL! It still has some and they could likely be safely removed soon.
