New Rock Sculptures

What are the dimensions? Are they heavy?

The "outcropping" is about 17" wide and 17" from the base to the top of the tree. It's not too heavy and I can easily carry it around. "The High Mountains" is about 22" across the base and around 39" to the top (the hinoki is right at 30"). It is quite heavy but I can still carry it by myself. I do have plans in the works for a multiple peak slab piece that I figure will will run around 150 lbs.

Wow these are amazing. You should make tutorial videos and share with the world.

Question: Are the rocks actually a warm ochre tone color? Gray concrete? Or......Is the color a result of the photography?

The sculpture is actually a little less ochre than the photo but I did use that tone to color the concrete. The light from a nearby window contributed a little to the warmth. I don't like the finished product to be too gray. Most natural rocks have a bit of "dirtiness" and often a touch of iron oxide. I'm partial to the yellow to red range myself.

Some of you may have seen a few of my rock sculptures in the past. Unfortunately due to work demands I have only recently been able to get back to some sculpting projects and thought I would share a couple. Recently, I've been working on a special concrete aggregate that yields very good results in terms of making cement more like clay (very smooth and with very little slump). The fist is a depiction of a outcropping of boulders surrounding a juniper. I designed it just like a pot (with drain holes and feet). My friend, Mr Bo always enjoys the cool of the shade.

Brilliant artwork ! Looks like real rocks, not at all hand sculpted ! Folded Frog, have you considered showing your collection to some studios who do miniature modeling for film visual effects ? Worth a try in my opinion.

Thank you, Bonsai Hunter. FYI, I work in the town where The Walking Dead is produced. No, I rather enjoy being self-directed when it comes to my sculpting. If it ever became an actual job I fear it would be too much like work!
