Furthermore, do windfall seedlings in a “mountainscape” planting count as an “-adori” of any sort, if they are FROM the trees WITHIN the planting?

My thought is: Yes!.. but you need a tiny shovel.

So, in practical usage, a person using bonsai as a coping mechanism when they're down would be practicing bumsai?

I don’t think one practices bumsai, I think bumsai happen. Even to good people. Maybe especially to good people who can’t do the “eh, if it dies, it dies” shrug. You go out one morning and — there it is: your Worry In A Pot, putting on a fresh crop of drama.
@Mike Corazzi am I close?

Practicing “bumsai” would be like a “self-fulfilling prophecy” to produce sad trees...

That’s a bummer.

Or ANY of ours, for that matter.

🤣🤣
Drat. And me too tired to tie it all up in a bow…

I’d threaten you with the thought of my sparkling witty sentence using all of the foregoing silliness faithfully, but tomorrow will be too late.

Goodbye, cruel word…
